Announcement

The Greek Mountaineering Club of Preveza informs all mountaineering, skiing, ecological and hunting Clubs in Greece, as well as excursionists and naturalists that the new Mountaineering and Ski Refuge "Aetoi" (the Eagles) is in operation since 1.11.1999, in the strochori Woods in Arta, 1300 m.

Its capacity is 15 persons, and one finds a fireplace, water, wooden decoration, toilet facilities and a kitchen.

One reaches the refuge very easily by car when there is no snow; when it snows, the walking distance from the car to the refuge is 3 Km on a path (1 hour, 2 hours max when there is much snow). There is a helping plate in the cross-road.

From the refuge, a mountaineers' group can ascend to the peka "Aetoi ton Oreon tou Baltou" (Eagles of the Marsh Mountains) (1852 m) in 3-4 hours, and descend in 2-3 hours; there are also secondary peaks (1500 m - 1600 m), which one can reach in 1 hour. The view is panoramic, to the Ionian Sea, the Ambracik Golf, Tzoumerka Mounts, Lakmos River, Acheloos River etc.
